Raku fired Ceramic Animal Sculpture
These sculptures are all one off, handbuilt originals and are made using an earthenware clay which Lesley mixes to her own preferrence. All the sculptures must be hollow and are formed by wrapping clay around paper
stuffing to create the basic body shape and then adding on legs etc. The sculpture is often propped up until the clay has hardened enough for the props to be removed and the sculpture finished off. the dried sculpture is
then raku fired resulting in a lifelike natural finish and a wonderful crackle glaze.
Lesley's etesive understanding of anatomy and her ability to convey the character of her chosen subject results in a truly unique and captivating sculpture
Sculpture
Lesley uses a variety of mediums forsculptureal pieces. she makes sculptures using fuse wore, this gives a raw, semi-skeletal feel to the work and is very striking. she has also created several beautiful woodcarvings, some of which
have won medals at national competitions and have features in several publications. Lesley also work in bronze and most recently she has taken up welding, using scrap metal and old car parts to suggest animal form.
Painting
Lesley's current paintings display a love of colour and form. Sheobservs the landscape unser the changing light of her North East home and uses these observations to create her own interpretaions.
Using strong shadows to create depth and abstract shapes she adds animals, trees and sometimes people to lead the onlooker around the image. Her paintings display a vivid, yet calm surrealism and evoke a sence of wonder.
